This exhibit highlights the complexities that go into the making of Chinese architecture. China has no less than four different modes of architectural practice. These are: 1) public institutes; 2) academic institutes; 3) private Chinese firms; 4) foreign firms. Each of this institutions have their own way of working .

Although this situation leads to a multitude of architectural styles that is perhaps unlike other places, the different practices appear to be looking at similar themes. The firms selected in this exhibition all deal with the challenges of building in a rapidly developing country, as well as  implementing technological innovation, creating lasting icons, discovering complex geometries, inventing new building typologies, integrating buildings with the natural landscape, and improving the environment. Their innovations point to a rapid ascent of Chinese architecture on the global stage.
